INSTEP - Innovative Supports to Empower Parents

INSTEP provides free, consistent, quality, temporary childcare for low income families to facilitate their work towards self-efficacy, family health and/or economic independence.

INSTEP stories:

A mom had been into drugs, and her husband had been abusing her. She knew the only way she could pull her life together was to have her children stay with her sister while she worked to get off drugs and found a job and housing. Her sister agreed, and in order to get help, officially became their foster mother.

Mom attended NA meetings, got a job, housing, etc., then wanted her children back. But the state said she had abandoned them. She could have them for visits during the summer if she could prove that she had childcare for them when she needed it. Brenda wrote a letter indicating that we would take care of them, and helped find resources for her oldest school age child. The children visited her in the summer and came to INSTEP a few times.

Today, she came in to say thank you, and that she had just reeived word that all three children would be returned to her on Christmas day.
